Yakutia's Elga field to produce about 30 million tons of coal

The construction of processing facilities at the Elga field, as well as seven factories, has been completed this year

KHABAROVSK, May 20. /TASS/. The Elgaugol Company expects to produce about 30 million tons of coal at a deposit in Yakutia in 2025, the Port Elga Company's CEO Evgeny Diev told a Russian-Chinese forum.

The Elga coal deposit in Yakutia is one of the world's biggest deposits of coking coal with reserves of more than 2.2 billion tons.

"In 2024, Elgaugol produced 28.6 million tons. <...> The production is increasing every year. While 21 million tons were produced in 2023, production in 2024 was 28.6 million tons, and we plan to produce about 32 million tons in 2025," he said.

The construction of processing facilities at the Elga field, as well as seven factories, has been completed this year. The processing capacity has reached 38.5 million tons, which exceeds the current production level by a large margin, the company's representative said. The plan is to produce more than 50 million tons, for which the company has been building processing infrastructure and transport infrastructures.

"The company is developing a big transport and logistics cluster that includes the Pacific Railway which is 531 km long. It is fully built, and currently is working at the stage of test operation," he continued. The road crosses Yakutia and the Khabarovsk Region running to a new port at Cape Manorsky on the Sea of Okhotsk coast.
