TOKYO, May 23. /TASS/. An earthquake of magnitude 5.4 was recorded off the coast of Japan, according to the US Geological Survey.

It said the epicenter was located 34 km southwest of the settlement of Urakawa (the Hokkaido Island), where 12,000 people live, at the depth of 59 km.

There was no information about casualties or damage. No tsunami threat was announced.
