BEIJING, April 23. /TASS/. The Chinese authorities remain steadfast in their approach to resolving the Iranian nuclear issue through political means, Foreign Minister Wang Yi has said.
"China has consistently advocated for a diplomatic and political solution to the Iranian nuclear problem," Wang stated, as quoted by the Chinese Foreign Ministry website following his meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi in Beijing. "We oppose the arbitrary use of force and illegal unilateral sanctions under any pretext," he emphasized.
Wang expressed Beijing’s appreciation for Tehran’s commitment not to pursue nuclear weapons and reaffirmed China’s respect for Iran’s right to develop nuclear energy for peaceful purposes. He also voiced support for Iran’s ongoing dialogue with all relevant parties, including the United States.
Highlighting the importance of constructive consultations, Wang noted that protecting Iran’s legitimate interests can help uphold the international nuclear non-proliferation regime and promote regional peace and stability.
According to the Chinese Foreign Ministry, Araghchi acknowledged China’s significant role in seeking a political resolution to the Iranian issue. The Iranian foreign minister expressed his readiness to maintain close communication with Beijing on this matter.
The two officials also exchanged views on regional concerns, including the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, the situations in Syria and Yemen, and developments in the Red Sea.
