ISTANBUL, June 7. /TASS/. Ankara supports efforts to resolve the Ukraine conflict peacefully and is ready to host talks involving US President Donald Trump, Turkish Defense Minister Yasar Guler said at a NATO ministerial meeting and a meeting of a contact group on Ukraine in Brussels on June 4-5, according to a statement on the Turkish Defense Ministry’s website.
"At the meeting of the contact group on Ukraine’s defense, the parties were informed that our president and US President Donald Trump were firmly determined to ensure a lasting ceasefire in Ukraine as intense communication continues in this regard, and there is readiness to work to ensure a ceasefire and peace, with us organizing [a meeting], which would particularly involve Trump. <...> At the NATO defense ministers’ meeting, a statement was made that we supported all efforts to establish a just and lasting peace in Ukraine as Turkey had recently held important meetings on the issue," Guler pointed out, referring to the second round of direct talks between Russia and Ukraine, which had taken place in Istanbul on June 2.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan earlier expressed readiness to organize a summit to help resolve the Ukraine conflict.
