China insists US abandon Golden Dome missile defense program — Foreign Ministry

Mao Ning said that the Golden Dome project possessed a "marked offensive character" and destabilized the international security framework

BEIJING, May 21. /TASS/. The Chinese Foreign Ministry’s spokesperson, Mao Ning, has called on the United States to abandon its Golden Dome global missile defense system initiative, warning that it threatens international stability.

"The United States is fixated on pursuing its own absolute security, which contradicts the principles of collective security and undermines the global strategic balance," Mao Ning stated during a press briefing. "China is deeply concerned about this development. We strongly urge the United States to cease the development and deployment of this global missile defense system and to take tangible steps toward building strategic mutual trust among major powers."

She further explained that the Golden Dome project possesses a "marked offensive character" and destabilizes the international security framework, jeopardizing efforts toward arms control and universal security.

On May 8, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping issued a joint statement reaffirming their stance that the U.S. Golden Dome program is "deeply destabilizing." The project envisions establishing an unrestricted, worldwide missile defense system - an approach that dismisses the fundamental link between offensive and defensive strategic weapons, a core principle for maintaining global stability. Notably, former U.S. President Donald Trump had previously pledged to allocate approximately $175 billion for the initiative.
