BUDAPEST, June 5. /TASS/. EU leaders are dead-set on waging war against Russia, which is why they are prolonging the Ukraine conflict, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said.

He claimed that the current EU leadership is more concerned with fighting Russia than improving the well-being of its member countries. Brussels believes its primary objective is to "fight Russia in the East," the prime minister said. "According to Brussels' military propaganda, Russia could attack the EU and NATO countries, and only a pre-emptive strike can stop this from happening," Orban said. He noted that by continuing the war in Ukraine, the EU is essentially carrying out such a pre-emptive strike.

The prime minister is opposed to this mindset, believing that European security interests are best served by quickly resolving the Ukrainian conflict. "While Brussels is preparing for war, we must support anti-war initiatives," Orban emphasized, adding that the biggest problem for Hungarians, as well as other peoples living in the Carpathian region, is the military conflict in Ukraine.

The politician also expressed concern about EU leaders' ongoing attempts to rule over Europe with an iron fist, limiting the rights of individual nations. "The Russian-Ukrainian war has become a catalyst for Brussels to expropriate more and more powers. It has become a benchmark for further centralization and the elimination of elements of sovereignty in the EU," Orban noted. In his opinion, this is "a coup and a violation of the logic of European integration."

"A centralized European superstate controlled by Brussels is not in the best interest of Hungarians or other peoples living in the Carpathian Basin," the prime minister said. The task is to "not allow the existing empire in Brussels to put a yoke around our necks," Orban noted.
