DUBAI, May 19. /TASS/. Moscow anticipates that Tehran and Washington will be able to resolve the crisis over Iran's nuclear program during talks in Oman, according to Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrey Rudenko.
"It is important for Moscow that these discussions yield a positive outcome, as such a result would contribute significantly to regional stability. We hope the participants will reach mutually acceptable agreements," Rudenko told ISNA news agency.
On May 11, Iran and the United States held their fourth round of negotiations on Tehran's nuclear program, mediated by Oman. The Iranian delegation was led by Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi. The chief US representative was Special Presidential Envoy Stephen Witkoff. Following the talks, Araghchi described this round as more serious and candid than previous meetings, noting that the parties’ positions were beginning to converge. On May 16, U.S. President Donald Trump announced that Washington had sent Tehran a written proposal aimed at resolving the impasse.
Iran's Foreign Ministry stated that Tehran is open to discussions with the United States regarding limitations on uranium enrichment – specifically its volume and level – conditional upon the lifting of sanctions. However, Iran firmly rejects the idea of a complete cessation of its nuclear activities, reaffirming its right to civil nuclear energy under the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, which Iran was among the first to sign.
